We support both wireless and wired rain sensors and have tested compatibility with the major brands. The RainMachine has software rain/flow sensor options, with an adjustable Rain/Flow amount. Flow meters on the other hand usually have a rotating element that makes either a reed relay, either a hall sensor to trigger. Most rain sensors are employing hygroscopic disks that swell in the presence of rain and shrink back down again as they dry out - an electrical switch is, in turn, depressed or released by the hygroscopic disk stack, and the rate of drying is typically adjusted by controlling the ventilation reaching the stack.
Rain and flow sensors for irrigation systems are widely available on the market in both wireless and hard-wired versions.
